Regular Massage Benefits

If you've ever had a massage, you know it is pleasant and relaxing. You may not have realized it can also have physical and emotional benefits if it is done regularly. There are several types of massage, from deep-tissue therapies to gentle Swedish treatments. They don't replace medical treatment, but they can benefit your body and mind if you have them done on an ongoing basis.

Pain Relief

Regular massages help with pain management. The therapist can concentrate on stiff muscles and specific problem areas, loosening them and increasing blood circulation. This temporarily relieves pain from sports injuries, arthritis and other conditions. You may not need as much pain medication if you get massages regularly.

Immune System Support

Many studies have shown regular massages support immune system function and decrease stress-related hormones that can lower immunity. For example, New Jersey researchers found college students who were stressed about an upcoming exam had better immune system function and less anxiety when they received a massage.

Get It Your Way
If there's one thing that will make your massage both more enjoyable and more beneficial, it's communicating with your therapist. If the room is too warm, if the bolster under your legs isn't in the right spot, if the music is driving you batty--whatever the issue--let your therapist know right away so you can get back to the business of enjoying your massage. "By all means, you should speak up about anything that diminishes your enjoyment of, or ability to focus on, your session, "Communication is key to getting your needs met". Clients must take the lead and let therapists know if a particular treatment or something else within the session is making them uncomfortable.

Your therapist will occasionally check in with you during your session, checking on pressure and making sure you're doing okay. Be sure and let the therapist know if you're not feeling well, if that spot on your calf is too tender, or even if you can't hold your need for a bathroom break any longer.

What are the benefits of a deep back cleansing/back facial?

While many people know the positive results they can get from having regular facials, they may not be aware that there are many benefits to be gained from having the same treatment on their back. A back facial will clean, tone, and exfoliate acne-prone skin, which can help clear up blemishes. Skin that is dry or irritated will typically be rehydrated and revitalized using moisturizing masks or lotions. As these treatments usually improve the appearance of the skin on the back, they can help people feel more comfortable and confident while wearing clothing like swimsuits or backless dresses. They can also help ease tension in the back muscles, as a light massage is normally part of the process.

One of the main reasons people get back facials is to get rid of acne there. Since the back can be hard for a person to reach on his or her own, the skin there may get neglected. A back facial allows the area to be thoroughly cleaned, exfoliated, and toned.  This in turn can lead to a clearer, healthier, blemish-free back.

Dry, irritated, overstressed skin can also benefit from a back facial. People who tend to have naturally dry skin or who have damage from exposure to sun or wind, can have a facial to nourish and repair the skin there. This is typically accomplished with the application of a moisturizing mask followed by a hydrating moisturizer.

The end result of a back facial is typically skin that looks clearer, smoother, and healthier. This is beneficial for people who want to wear clothing that reveals some or all of their back, such as tank tops, swimsuits, or dresses. People with acne on their backs may be particularly self-conscious as it can be disfiguring, so a back facial can help boost their confidence and allow them to dress how they want. This can be particularly helpful during the summer, when most people tend to wear more revealing clothes.

Another benefit of a back facial is stress reduction. The treatment usually includes a neck, shoulder, and back massage, which helps ease tense muscles in the area and deepen relaxation. Often, the entire treatment is done in a calm, quiet environment

as well, with soft music and soothing lighting to allow one to relax even more.

What is an Aromatherapy Wrap?

An aromatherapy wrap can be a small, heated pad with a scented pouch or a full body wrap using towels infused with scented essential oil. Many practitioners of holistic medicine believe that scent has the capacity to treat diseases, injuries, and mental conditions. During this soothing, thermal therapy, the heat relaxes the body and releases the scent while the liberated fragrance reduces stress. Different scents are used to treat different conditions.

In a spa, an aromatherapy wrap treatment is much more elaborate. Typically, several large warm and soft towels permeated with fragrant, essential oils are wrapped around the entire body. The wrap is then left in place for about 30 minutes to allow the heat to penetrate and the scent to be released. During the aromatherapy treatment, the heat in the wrap soothes the muscle aches in the body, and the perfume of the aromatic oils relaxes and relieves the patient's stress while the essential oils help to soften and moisturize the skin.

Aromatic wraps can be used to treat many different diseases, injuries, and psychological problems. An aromatherapy wrap is often used to relieve the pain associated with arthritis. Sports injuries, muscle strains, or muscle spasms are also often relieved through the use of aromatherapy. Heated fragrant wraps may also relieve psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia, enough to reduce the doses of medication needed to treat these conditions.

The scent selected to be used inside an aromatherapy wrap typically depends on the medical condition being treated. For example, ginger, allspice, and juniper berries are used to abate joint and muscle pain. Peppermint scent can relieve nausea and is often used. Lavender is frequently employed to reduce anxiety and insomnia.
